Graduate Sanjay Jha 'excited' by Motorola Mobility's proposed Google merger
The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Motorola Mobility, Sanjay Jha (BEng (Hons) Electronic Engineering 1984) has expressed his excitement about the company's pending merger with Google.
At a Special Meeting of Stockholders that was held on November 17, 2011, Motorola Mobility stockholders voted overwhelmingly (more than 99 percent of the voting shares) in favour of the previously announced merger agreement that would lead to Motorola Mobility being acquired by Google.
The agreement was unanimously approved in August by the boards of directors of both companies. The transaction is expected to close in early 2012. Once the transaction closes, Motorola Mobility will operate as an independent business under Google and will continue to be led by Mr Jha.
Mr Jha joined Motorola in 2008 and has been instrumental in turning around the company's mobile devices business. He led the spin-off and creation of Motorola Mobility, an independent, publicly traded company launched in January this year. Prior to joining Motorola, he served as Chief Operating Officer of Qualcomm.
