Governor of Georgia visits University for city link-up

Governon of GeorgiaThe Governor of Georgia, Nathan Deal, visited Liverpool as part of the University’s ongoing work to strengthen links between the State and the city of Liverpool.

Governor Deal paid a special visit to the city after a Liverpool delegation travelled to the US earlier this year to explore the development of education, business and cultural partnerships with his State.

The visit is expected to lead to collaborations on a number of levels and the development of a network of relationships. The initiative, which is being supported by the University along with Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, Liverpool Vision, The Mersey Partnership, Liverpool City Council and National Museums Liverpool, will be taken forward in September during a workshop to be held in Liverpool.

The University already has strong links with a cluster of institutions in and around Atlanta, including the University of Georgia, Athens (UGA), Georgia Institute of Technology, Emory University, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the University of Washington in St Louis.

Last month, a delegation from UGA led by Vice-President for Research, Dr David Lee, visited Liverpool as both institutions explore creating joint PhD opportunities in the science subjects.
