Sporting links with Boston spark University visit

The Fenway Sports Group’s ownership of the Boston Red Sox and Liverpool Football Club prompted a visit to the University by a US trade mission exploring potential transatlantic links.

The delegation from Boston, which included academics, businessmen and a journalist from the Boston Globe, travelled to Liverpool on a visit organised by UK Trade & Investment to foster connections between Merseyside and Massachusetts.

Fenway’s investment in the Anfield club has raised the profile of Liverpool in Boston and it is believed will help strengthen business links between the two port cities.

During their networking lunch at the University, organised by the institution’s Business Gateway, the delegation met with a number of senior academics relating to their respective fields across the creative industries and in medical imaging.

The trip also included a creative industries seminar, an afternoon at Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, and visits to Liverpool Science Park and the Cavern Club.
