Ambassadors hold Day at the Races and Mexican party for US alumni
Alumni on the East and West coasts attended events organised by our Alumni Ambassadors in New York and California.
In New York, graduates attended a special behind-the-scenes Day at the Races at Belmont Park, which was organised by Alumni Ambassador for New York and racehorse owner, Tina Evans (MBA 2008), to give attendees the opportunity to gain a unique insight into the racing industry.
As well as lunch in the clubhouse, the day included a tour of the barn area and presentation by Tina’s husband Wayne, and a visit to Anna House, the centre for the Belmont Child Care Association, a not-for-profit organisation which supports workers in the racing industry.
The former Director of Anna House, Donna Chenkin, met the group and presented them with an autographed photograph of jockey John Velaquez winning the Breeder’s Cup sprint in 2004 on board Speightstown. Representatives from WestPoint Thoroughbreds were also on hand to speak about their organisation.
On the West coast, alumni attended a party held at the home of Alumni Ambassador for Southern California, Dr Brian Jones (BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering 1961, PhD 1965).
The event was hosted by Brian and his wife, Debbie, at their San Gabriel home and guests enjoyed a family evening with a Mexican theme.
Future events are planned in the coming months. Please check the alumni website for further updates.
