University of Liverpool in America Inc's first grant to Benefactors' Fund
The University’s Benefactors’ Fund has been awarded a grant of $8,479 by the board of directors of University of Liverpool in America Inc.
The grant, which represents the total amount raised through the November 2010 US fund-raising campaign, will positively benefit current and future generations of students by enhancing their experience of studying at Liverpool and improving resources and facilities across campus.
The campaign saw almost 500 US-based graduates called by a current student to discuss their time at the Institution and ask for support for University of Liverpool in America Inc.
Dr Lisa Hannah-Stewart, Annual Giving Manager, said: “This was our first overseas telephone campaign and we were delighted with the response we received from our alumni across the US.
“The grant will make a real difference to both current and future generations of students and I would like to thank all those who made a donation for their generous support.”
University of Liverpool in America Inc. is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, which enables alumni based in the United States to retain and develop their connection with the University and build philanthropic support for its activities.
By giving through the foundation rather than directly to the University, US tax payers are able to make their donation more tax efficiently, as gifts to University of Liverpool in America Inc. are tax exempt under Sector 501 (c) (3) of the US Internal Revenue Code. The grant is also eligible for the UK Government’s matched funding scheme, which means all donations made as a result of the US telephone campaign will ultimately be boosted by a third.
The grant comes as University of Liverpool in America Inc. marks the first anniversary of its launch. Over the past 12 months, almost $70,000 has been raised by the foundation, reconnecting alumni across the US with their alma mater and offering them an insight into the work currently being undertaken at the University.
With a further $60,000 in donations pledged and plans in place for alumni activity throughout the next year, the foundation will build on its first year over the next 12 months.
